A question we get asked often is: How did Tuffy’s get its name?
The answer starts with Darrell “Tuffy” Nelson, the entrepreneur who founded what would eventually become KLN Family Brands. The nickname "Tuffy" followed him throughout his life and reflected the grit, determination, and resilience that helped him build a business in rural Minnesota.
And in many ways, that story is still part of who we are today. Over the years, KLN has faced its share of "tough" moments, but we've always found a way forward through the strength of our people, the support of our communities, and the values Tuffy instilled from the very beginning. More than a name, Tuffy's represents a legacy of perseverance, innovation, and doing right by others.

Originally from Arden Hills, Minnesota, Elsa is studying Biochemistry at the University of Iowa and has always been drawn to food science and nutrition. This summer, she's gaining hands-on experience in product development while spending time in the Perham area she has loved visiting since childhood.
When she's not at work, you'll likely find her at the lake, trying a new coffee shop or restaurant, or planning her next adventure.
